Use your USB flash drive as virtual RAM
Today I´m gonna show you how to use a usb thumb drive as a virtual RAM device for your pc.
The thumb drive I used is a 2 Gb from Kingston. The size should be less than 4 Gb.
When you look at the sreenshots below you have to consider that it is in German.
Step 1:
Rename your thumb drive  as "RAM DRIVE", so you can see that it is the one which is used as RAM.

Delete all the stuff one the pen drive. Look also after hidden once.

Right click on "My Computer" --> Properties

click on "Advanced" --> system output "Settings"

click on "Advanced" -->  "Edit"

Click on your thumb drive above  --> "user-defined size"  -->
you can see the size of your flash drive (in this case 1932 Mb)
calculate: size of flash drive - 5 Mb
in this case: 1932 - 5 = 1927
Now type this number in the first box. In the second box you type in the same number (see picture) -->
click "set" and "OK"

Click "Apply", click not "Cancel" or  "OK".
After you have clicked "Apply", click "OK".
Restart your computer.

Warning:
Don´t pull out your thumb drive after you made this settings, because it´s used as virtual RAM device. It may crash your computer if you pull out your thumb drive. I´m not responsible for thoose cases.

Step 6: Removing

Removing
If your computer didn´t get really faster or you have other reasons to remove the USB thumb drive than take the following steps:
Go to step 6 and choose your USB thumb drive, than click "no swapfile" --> "Set" -->"OK" --> "Apply"

Setting up the Windows 7 Ready Boost Service for an Extra Speed Boost
This technique uses a pen drive speed up slow windows 7. Discussed below are the steps to employ this technique:
1. Users need to have a high speed Flash/USB or pen drive (compatible with ready boost) to configure the Ready Boost Feature in Windows 7.
2. After plugging the USB drive, users should open “My Computer” and then right-click on the USB Drive and after that they should click on the “Ready Boost” tab and tick the “Use this device” checkbox.
3. And then finally, users should configure the amount of pen drive memory they wish to use as random access memory (RAM).
The ready boost feature of Windows 7 facilitates to use pen drive or flash drive as RAM, thus enhancing the performance and speed of sluggish windows 7 to a great extent.
Disable Search Indexing Feature
This feature search helps keeps track of the documents and folders on windows 7 for the purpose of quick searching. But, this feature consumes a lot of system resources and thus sources slow windows 7. Hence, disabling this feature can help speed up slow windows 7 and enhance its performance. Discussed below are the steps to disable this feature:
1. Firstly, the users should right click on the “My Computer” icon on the desktop and select the option “Manage”. Afterwards, the “Computer Management” window will appear on the screen.
2. Secondly, users should click on “Services and Applications” in the “Computer Management” window. And then users should finally click on “Services”. A list of services will appear on the computer screen.
3. Conclusively, users should locate the “Windows Search” service and then right click on it and select the option “Properties”. Finally, select “Disabled” in the “Startup Type”.

Increasing Virtual Memory (Paging File) in Windows 7
This technique is for those users who operates on many programs and windows simultaneously and leads to slow windows 7. Too many opened programs or windows decrease the speed of the system. But the users can increase the Virtual Memory of Windows 7 to avoid the problem of slow windows 7.
Virtual memory works in coordination with RAM. Hard disk space can be used as virtual memory to store temporary information, which otherwise is very rarely used by programs and operating system. Increasing virtual memory in Windows 7 ensures the smooth working of  Windows 7. Steps to perform this technique are mentioned below:
1. Users should right click on the My Computer icon on desktop and select properties.
2. Afterwards users should go to the “Advanced tab” and click on the setting button under ‘Performance’.
3. Finally, users should go to “Advanced tab” in next window and press change button under virtual memory.
Then users should enter the size they want to allocate for the virtual memory in the next screen under custom size. But, users must ensure that the memory amount they are allocating should not be less than the system recommended size. Generally, recommended paging file is 1.5 of physical RAM.

How to Create a Virtual Hard Drive in Windows 7

Create a Virtual Drive 
This process creates virtual disks in the .VHD format where the minimum size is 3MB. To begin, Right-click on My Computer and select to Manage. Alternately you can type diskmgmt.msc into the Start search box and enter.

The Computer Management screen opens click on Disk Management then Action and Create VHD.

Browse to the directory you want the disk to reside, choose the size you want it to be, and select dynamic or a fixed. If you want the disk to expand in size as you add files to it, then pick Dynamically expanding. Check Fixed size if you want a specific size and for it to stay that way.

In Disk Management you will see the virtual drive listed as unallocated space.

To begin using it you’ll need to Right-click and select Initialize Disk.

In the initialize disk box just keep MBR selected and hit OK.

Create a Volume
Now it is time to create a volume by Right-clicking the unallocated space and select New Simple Volume.

The New Simple Volume Wizard starts up and it’s just a matter of completing it.

Choose the amount of space you want to use for the volume.

Assign it a dive letter that is not currently being used.

Format the new volume as NTFS, FAT32, or FAT. Check if you want a quick format and file compression.

The wizard is complete, click on Finish.

If you have AutoPlay enabled it should pop up for you to open up your new virtual hard disk.

It will be listed with the other disks in Disk Management.

Of course you will also see it listen under My Computer.

This is a cool new feature that will let you use the disk as you would any type of real disk. You can encrypt it, share it out to other systems, store files to it…however you would use an extra disk connected to your system.

Install operating system on Virtualbox

Requirements

  • VirtualBox running on supported host operating system (in this case openSUSE 11.2)
  • ISO image of the desired guest operating system

Setup an new virtual machine

  • Open VirtualBox and click on the New button and then Next and then enter a name for your virtual machine.
  • Then select the correct Operating System type and the Version from the respective drop down menus and then Next.
  • Select the amount of memory that will be allocated to the guest OS.
Warning Leave a sufficient amount for host OS itself
  • Select Create new hard disk and click next, a new wizard will pop up.
  • Follow the guide and select either a Dynamically expanding storage or a Fixed-size storage
  • Select the initial size of it. Then click on the Finish button.
  • Click on the Next button and then the Finish button.
  • Select your newly created virtual machine in the VirtualBox main interface and then click on Start.
  • The "First Run Wizard" will pop up.
  • Tell VirtualBox which ISO image file is to be used by selecting ISO Image File and use "Virtual Media Manager" to add your ISO image.
  • The virtual machine will now boot from the image and you should proceed with the OS installation.

How to Clean the Dust Out of Your Laptop

If you’ve had your laptop for a year or two, it may be full of dust. Dust clogs fans, vents, and heat sinks, preventing your PC from cooling down properly. You can remove a good amount of this dust, even if you can’t open your laptop.
Dust build-up can prevent a PC from cooling down properly, and that heat can even cause hardware damage. Your laptop’s fans may also run at full blast, draining your battery. Your laptop may even reduce its performance to stay cool.

If You Can Open Your Laptop

Most laptops, especially newer ones, aren’t designed to be opened by their users. This presents a serious problem. On a desktop PC, you’d power down your PC, open the case, blow it out with a can of compressed air, and close the case. You could dust out a laptop in a similar way– if only there was a way to open it up and get inside.
Your laptop may have a bottom panel (or several bottom panels) you can unscrew to access the internals. Check your laptop’s manual, or look up a special “service manual” for your specific model of laptop online. Power down the laptop, remove the battery, and unscrew the panel to get at the laptop’s insides. If a service manual is available for your laptop, it will walk you through the process. Depending on your laptop, opening the panel may or may not void your warranty.

After it’s open, take the laptop somewhere you don’t mind getting dusty — like your garage, or even outside. Use a can of compressed air to blow out the internals of your laptop. Ensure you’re blowing the dust out of the laptop’s case, not just moving it around inside. For example, you could blow more toward your laptop’s vents so the dust would be blasted through the vents and out of the laptop. Be careful when blowing air at the fans in the laptop — if you make the fans spin too quickly, they could be damaged. Blow at the fans from many different angles, using short blasts of air.
We recommend compressed air — also known as canned air — for a reason. Don’t use a vacuum, and be extra careful if you opt to use an air compressor instead of a can of compressed air.

When you’re done, you can screw the panel back on, plug in the battery, and power the laptop back on. It’ll run cooler, and its fans should spin up less often.

If You Can’t Open Your Laptop

Whether you want to upgrade your laptop’s hardware or just dust it out, manufacturers don’t want you to open most laptops. But dust does build up inside a laptop, whether you can open it yourself or not.
Even if you can’t open your laptop, you can still attempt to dislodge some of that dust. First, take the laptop somewhere you don’t mind getting dusty. You probably don’t want to blow dust all over your desk or bed.
Get a can of compressed air, point it at the laptop’s cooling vents, and give them a few short bursts of air. With any luck, the jets of air will knock some of the dust loose and it will escape the laptop’s vents. You won’t get all the dust out of the laptop, but at least it will stop plugging up the vents, fans, and whatever else it’s stuck to. This isn’t the ideal way to dust out a laptop, but it may be all you can do.
Exercise caution when doing this. If you aim a blast of compressed air directly at a cooling fan inside a vent, you could cause the cooling fan to spin too quickly. Don’t aim the air directly at the fan and give it a long blast. Instead, blow air in short bursts, waiting in between to ensure you’re not spinning the fan too quickly.

If your laptop has serious problems with overheating and you can’t clean it yourself, you may have to contact the manufacturer for service. If it’s still under warranty, they should hopefully help you.

If you’ve had your laptop for a year or two, there’s probably some significant dust build-up inside its case. Cleaning your laptop on a regular basis is a good idea, but you don’t need to go overboard and do this all the time. How often you need to clean your laptop depends on the laptop itself and how dusty your environment is.
